Director of Product Management, Agentic Software Delivery
role As Director, Product Management: Agentic Software Delivery, you'll own one of GitLab's most strategic sections, spanning Continuous Integration, Artifact Management, Continuous Deployment, and Observability. You'll lead senior and principal product managers and be accountable for adoption, retention, and revenue across build, package, deploy, and monitor. Today, these are separate stages with a human making the call at each handoff. As agents take on more coding, pipeline, and deployment work, you'll set the three-year vision for how much of that judgment the system can make safely and how quickly a production signal can turn into a fix without waiting for a human to notice it first. You'll define how customers move from today's manual checkpoints toward agent-driven software delivery at a pace that fits their risk tolerance. In your first year, you'll bring four connected roadmaps into one coherent strategy, establish how investment is allocated and reallocated, deepen partnerships with Engineering and go-to-market leaders, and give customers a credible path for managing software delivery at scale. What you’ll do Own the strategy, three-year vision, and business outcomes for GitLab's Agentic Software Delivery section, with a clear point of view on how artificial intelligence is changing software delivery. Lead and develop senior and principal product managers across Continuous Integration, Artifact Management, Continuous Deployment, and Observability, helping them grow as independent decision-makers. Establish the frameworks, standards, and operating rhythm that support consistent, high-quality product decisions without unnecessary escalation. Own section-level key performance indicators and adoption funnels, using the results to reallocate investment or stop work that isn't paying off. Evaluate major strategic bets, partnerships, and build, buy, or partner decisions, and develop the business cases that support them. Partner with Engineering leadership on platform investment, architectural direction, and trade-offs across the section, while connecting build, package, deploy, and monitor into one coherent customer experience. Drive pricing, packaging, go-to-market strategy, migration, and adoption with Product Marketing, Sales, Pricing, Customer Success, and Solutions Engineering across free, commercial, and enterprise offerings. Represent the section with GitLab's senior leadership, key enterprise customers, partners, and industry audiences, while modeling AI-native product management across discovery, synthesis, prototyping, roadmap exploration, and concept development. What you’ll bring Experience leading product managers, including developing senior and principal talent, hiring, and addressing performance directly. A track record of owning a portfolio across multiple product areas and being accountable for adoption, retention, and revenue, not only roadmap delivery. Product management depth in one or more relevant areas, such as continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, artifact or package management, release management, or observability. Sound judgment about where to invest and where to stop, including experience making and defending build, buy, or partner decisions with a business case. Technical fluency to work with engineers and architects on pipeline design, artifact workflows, deployment strategies, and observability signals such as logs, metrics, and traces. Experience shaping pricing and packaging for technical products across free, commercial, and enterprise offerings. Experience working with technical customers in developer tools, DevOps, or software delivery environments where engineers and engineering leaders are primary users. Executive-level communication and influence. Practical use of AI tools in product management workflows, along with a thoughtful view of how AI and agentic workflows are changing software delivery. We welcome candidates whose experience may come from different but transferable product and leadership paths. About the team The team brings together senior product leaders across GitLab's software delivery platform and works closely with Engineering, Design, and go-to-market partners so customers experience these capabilities as one connected system. The team helps customers manage today's delivery complexity while shaping how AI-powered and AI-native workflows influence the next generation of software delivery. As part of GitLab's all-remote organization, the team collaborates asynchronously across regions with a focus on transparency, written communication, and clear decision-making. You'll own the outcomes of GitLab's social function — strategy, budget, team development, tooling, and results — and serve as GitLab's senior-most voice on social strategy with executive stakeholders. This is a player-coach role. You'll set the strategy and stay close enough to the work to write, build, and ship alongside the team. Two Social Media Managers report to the head of corporate communication and work with you on a dotted-line basis. What you’ll do Own the performance of GitLab's social function and its contribution to marketing and business goals. Lead GitLab's global organic social media strategy, channel plans, and editorial priorities. Own GitLab's YouTube strategy end to end — channel architecture, programming and series development, long- and short-form video, packaging (titles, thumbnails, metadata), search and recommendation optimization, and subscriber and watch-time growth. Partner with Growth Marketing on paid social, including briefing creative, aligning organic and paid on shared audiences and messaging, informing boosting and amplification decisions, and connecting paid performance back to organic strategy. Develop clear, audience-focused campaigns that support company, product, brand, and talent goals. Guide content planning and publishing across social channels while maintaining a consistent GitLab voice. Own the social media budget, tooling stack, and agency, freelance, and production partner relationships. Partner with DevRel on community engagement to help GitLab participate in relevant industry conversations with a clear, useful point of view. Build and run creator, influencer, and advocacy programs, including developer creators, GitLab community contributors, and team member advocacy. Own GitLab's employee advocacy program — grow participation across Marketing, Sales, Engineering, and Talent, equip team members with content worth sharing, and measure reach, engagement, and contribution to brand and talent goals. Partner with Communications and Talent Acquisition on enablement, and manage the advocacy platform and its adoption. Support executive and expert social presence, partnering with Communications to help GitLab leaders and technical experts show up credibly on social, including constructive conversations with C-suite executives about proposed content. Apply AI tools thoughtfully across the social workflow to help GitLab model what an AI-native marketing team looks like. Experience owning a social function end to end, including strategy, budget, headcount, tooling, and results as the accountable leader. Experience leading teams, agencies, and cross-functional programs, with clear ownership of and accountability for outcomes. Hands-on experience growing LinkedIn and X as primary channels, with judgment about what content, format, and cadence work on each. Experience with paid social programs and how organic and paid social reinforce each other, including creative for paid, audience strategy, and interpreting paid performance data. Ours is Sprout Social, Meltwater, and EveryoneSocial. Experience running social programs across multiple regions and languages, and judgment about what to localize versus centralize. Build the capabilities required to help customers adopt GitLab’s strategic use cases, including GitLab Duo and the Duo Agent Platform where relevant to customer objectives. Use product-usage data, customer feedback, success-plan progress, and health signals to identify risk and prioritize intervention. Partner with Sales and Renewal Management to turn adoption progress and outcome evidence into a credible expansion and renewal narrative. Own operational excellence and business performance Establish a disciplined cadence for forecasting, customer health, risk management, pipeline inspection, capacity planning, and performance reviews. Define a balanced scorecard for CSMA and CSE that includes customer outcomes, adoption, retention health, expansion influence, coverage, productivity, quality, and team development. Improve data quality and operational consistency across Gainsight, Salesforce, reporting dashboards, and other systems of record. Ensure customer escalations are handled with clear ownership, appropriate executive engagement, and timely cross-functional coordination. Identify systemic friction in the customer journey and lead continuous-improvement initiatives that scale across EMEA and globally. Build and develop an exceptional team Recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing CSMA and CSE leaders and practitioners across EMEA. Set clear expectations for customer leadership, technical depth, commercial acumen, operational discipline, and collaboration. Engineering Manager - Database Change Management
role As Engineering Manager, Database Change Management, you'll lead a remote backend engineering team in the Database Excellence stage. The team owns database health and the database upgrade experience across GitLab.com and self-managed deployments. You'll guide two missions at once: keeping one of the largest PostgreSQL installations in the world within its capacity limits, and delivering a multi-year replacement of GitLab's database migration system so customer upgrades become dramatically faster and safer. Reporting to the Database Excellence stage's engineering leader, you'll build and grow a new engineering cluster in India, keep the long-horizon platform program on track, and help the team maintain production health through fully asynchronous, handbook-first ways of working. Some examples of our projects: Replacing GitLab's sequential database migration system with a dependency graph model and three-phase upgrades, helping self-managed customers stay current with fewer upgrade stops Improving database health monitoring, cloud-managed database observability, and saturation and capacity forecasting for GitLab.com and self-managed deployments What you’ll do Lead a distributed team of backend engineers working fully asynchronously across time zones. Hire, onboard, and develop an India-based engineering cluster, including intermediate engineers and a senior technical anchor. Balance the team's database health responsibilities with the multi-quarter migration system replacement so both missions continue to make progress. Protect the replatforming program's critical path by limiting production interruptions for engineers focused on it while meeting the team's operational commitments. Coach engineers from intermediate through senior levels, supporting their growth, ownership, and impact. Run the team async-first through written decision records, visible priorities, and management practices that work when team members share few or no working hours. Partner with Distribution, Quality Assurance (QA), database framework teams, Database Architecture, Database Automation, and infrastructure leadership. Represent the team's capacity, priorities, risks, and delivery status to senior engineering leadership. What you’ll bring Engineering management experience leading remote, distributed teams across many time zones, including team members with little or no overlap with your working day. Production PostgreSQL experience , including capacity planning and enough technical depth to contribute credibly to migration system and reliability design discussions without needing to own the designs. Experience leading a long-horizon platform or infrastructure program alongside operational responsibilities and keeping both on track. Hiring and team-building experience , including experience standing up a new team or site cluster, or closely related work. Strong written communication skills and experience using writing as a primary management tool. Experience coaching and developing backend engineers across multiple levels. Ability to set priorities and protect focus while maintaining production health and meeting operational commitments. Experience collaborating cross-functionally with software engineering, quality, distribution, database, and infrastructure partners. About the team We work fully asynchronously and handbook-first with Database Architecture, Database Automation, Distribution, and QA. Our work helps address the fact that roughly a third of self-managed customers are two or more upgrade stops behind. Backend Engineer, AI Engineering: Duo Chat
role As a Backend Engineer on the Chat Engine team, you'll build the engine behind GitLab Duo Chat, the conversational AI experience for GitLab. You'll work primarily in Python to build and maintain our agentic runtime: the Flow Registry, LangGraph flows, and the Duo Workflow Service. You'll also work in the GitLab Rails monolith, where Chat connects with the product. You'll own scoped parts of the system, ship small features and improvements with minimal guidance, and collaborate with the team on larger projects. You'll work alongside senior and staff engineers who will partner with you on design and support your growth. What you’ll do Develop secure, well-tested, and performant features and improvements for GitLab Duo Chat. Implement and extend agentic flows in Python using LangGraph, registered through the Flow Registry and served by the Duo Workflow Service. Integrate Chat capabilities with the GitLab Rails monolith, including its GraphQL application programming interface (API). Write maintainable code that meets our internal standards for a high-scale environment, including tests with every merge request. Review code within our Code Review Guidelines and respond promptly to contributions from people who don't work for GitLab. Identify technical debt and propose and implement solutions that improve the team's efficiency. Collaborate with Product Management, User Experience, and Frontend team members to improve product quality, security, and performance. Participate in Tier 2 or Tier 3 weekday, weekend, and occasional night on-call rotations to help troubleshoot product operations, security operations, and urgent engineering issues. What you’ll bring Professional experience with Python, including building and testing production services. Working proficiency with Ruby on Rails, or a willingness to learn it, since a meaningful part of Chat lives in the GitLab monolith. Exposure to, or strong interest in, building on top of large language models, including prompting, tool or function calling, evaluation, and the failure modes of non-deterministic systems. Experience designing and building APIs, including diagnosing and optimizing performance issues, and comfort working with well-documented third-party services. A security-minded development approach that applies secure coding guidelines early in the development process. Clear and concise written communication about technical problems and iterative solutions, which is essential in a remote, largely asynchronous environment. Manage work independently, organize priorities, and ask for help when an issue is taking longer than expected. Demonstrate GitLab's values by collaborating effectively in a fully remote, intensely iterative environment. Experience with LangGraph, LangChain, or a comparable agent orchestration framework. Experience with GraphQL and RSpec. Experience with the GitLab product as a user or contributor. Experience working on a remote, globally distributed team. About the team We're part of GitLab's AI Engineering organization and own the AI-powered chat experience embedded across the GitLab platform. Chat Engine is the backend-focused team within the Duo Chat group. We're backend, frontend, and AI specialists working asynchronously across time zones, using issues, merge requests, and documentation as our main collaboration tools. We focus on expanding generative and agentic AI capabilities, improving the performance and reliability of chat workflows, and strengthening the debugging and testing foundations that help us run AI features safely at scale. AI Transformation Owner, Product & Design
role As an AI Transformation Owner at GitLab, you'll shape your function's AI strategy and build the solutions that deliver it. You are the person responsible for identifying where AI can fundamentally change how your org operates, partnering with your Executive Sponsor to align on the biggest challenges, and driving measurable outcomes against them. Think of this as a product management role where the product is your org's way of working. You'll manage the full lifecycle: understanding how work flows today, deciding where AI should reshape it, prioritizing what gets built and in what order, and ensuring what ships actually gets adopted. You'll also prototype solutions, configure agents, and prove what's possible before pulling in engineering support to scale it. You will work closely with an AI Engineer who sits within the Enterprise AI team. Together you form a partnership: you bring the business context, process intelligence, and strategic prioritization. They bring the technical depth, production-grade delivery, and architecture decisions. You'll build working solutions at the no-code and low-code layer, and partner with the AI Engineer on the right approach, tooling, and structure. What you'll do Strategy & Prioritization Own your function's AI strategy, aligned with your Executive Sponsor and business priorities. Understand which metrics matter to the org, identify what will move the needle, define how you'll measure impact, and track progress over time. Map how work flows across your function end-to-end, including the handoffs upstream and downstream to other orgs. Identify where the real constraints are, not just the ones your team can see. Focus on the 100x problems: where could leveraging AI in a workflow let your org execute it orders of magnitude faster, or at 100x more volume than before? Manage intake of AI requests, ideas, and pain points from across the function, including via your Champion network. Ensure every team member has a clear route to surface what they need, rather than building independently. Prioritize strategically against business outcomes and executive guidance. Hold the line on priorities - we cannot change direction every two weeks - and ensure the AI Engineer's time is spent on the highest-impact work. Adoption & Change Management Reimagine, not just automate. Challenge your org to think beyond injecting AI into existing workflows. Work with Enterprise AI to spot opportunities to fundamentally rethink how work gets done. Drive adoption and change management together with the AI Engineer. The best AI solution is worthless if nobody uses it. Create the channels, rituals, and feedback loops that make AI visible in your function: shared spaces for teams to show what they've built, regular office hours, onboarding for new hires, and celebration of wins. Own the rollout and iteration needed to make AI initiatives stick. Coordinate with Enterprise AI to ensure your function benefits from patterns, tools, and learnings emerging across other parts of the business. Build and bridge the Champion network in your function. Champions are the peer community that extends your reach beyond what you and the AI Engineer can deliver directly. From early in the role, identify and recruit Champions across sub-teams (5-10% time, formally agreed with their manager), run a regular Champion sync, host demos to the wider function, and act as their bridge to Enterprise AI. Champions are not your reports: you coordinate them, you don't manage them. Without this network, your reach is capped. Hands-On Building & Agent Operations Build AI agents using no-code and low-code platforms (e.g. Glean, Workato, similar tools). Go from idea to working prototype without waiting for engineering. Author and iterate on skills files that define how AI agents behave. Refine instructions based on real usage and share reusable skills across the function. Configure MCP servers and tools, giving agents access to the business systems they need. Partner with the AI Engineer on what to connect and how to do it securely. Own your function's fleet of agents. Some agents will be used directly by people in your org. Those that aren't, you own. Either way, you're accountable for their performance: tracking KPIs, running evaluations after model or data changes, and iterating based on what you learn. Expect to rebuild. AI tools and models evolve fast. The agent you built last month may need to be replaced, not patched. You should be comfortable sunsetting your own work when a better approach emerges, and helping your org stay current rather than attached to what exists today. What you'll bring Business & Strategic Deep knowledge of your function's operations. You understand how work moves through your org, where it gets stuck, and why. You can trace a process end-to-end and explain how it connects to the teams around it. Strategic prioritization skills. You've managed competing demands before and can make hard calls about what matters most. You think in terms of business outcomes, not activity. A product management mindset. You naturally think about intake, backlog, iteration, and adoption. You're comfortable defining success metrics and holding yourself accountable to them. Strong communication and influence. You'll be the person saying "not yet" to some teams and "think bigger" to others. You need the credibility and interpersonal skills to make both of those conversations land. Cross-functional instincts. You default to understanding how your org's processes affect and are affected by the teams around you - not just optimising in isolation. Experience building peer networks or communities of practice. You've recruited and sustained volunteer contributors before, whether as a guild lead, champion program owner, or community organizer. You know how to motivate people whose time you don

Participate in regional sales forecast calls, quarterly business reviews, and end-of-quarter standups, providing clear updates on deal status, risks, and required actions. Work hours aligned with the GMT+10 time zone. What you'll bring Experience supporting quoting, pricing, opportunity booking, subscription management, and bookings within Deal Desk, billing operations, sales operations, revenue operations, or a similar quote-to-cash function. Strong CPQ skills and technical knowledge, ideally including experience with Zuora or a similar tool, and the ability to understand how calculations and charges are generated across products and pricing models. Experience with consumption-based structures is a plus. Practical Salesforce experience, including creating and reviewing quotes, managing opportunities, and troubleshooting data or process issues to support accurate booking metrics. The ability to interpret commercial contracts and understand how legal and commercial terms, including price locks and term commitments, affect deal structure, pricing, bookings, and approvals. Strong attention to detail and a focus on accuracy across quotes, order forms, and bookings, including the ability to validate or recreate scenarios using Google Sheets, Excel, or similar tools. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the initiative to identify the root causes of quote-to-cash issues and partner with systems and cross-functional teams to prevent recurring errors. Director of Engineering, Organizations & Cells
the Role GitLab.com is being rebuilt as a horizontally scalable cluster. Two primitives make that possible: Organizations , the tenant boundary that makes a customer's data a single addressable, portable unit, and Cells , independent GitLab instances that host those Organizations and can be provisioned on demand across clouds and regions. The target is a 100x increase in headroom for GitLab.com, delivered without customers ever seeing a cell. Same domain, same URLs, same product — a substrate underneath that scales by adding capacity rather than by negotiating with a single database. The boundary we are building is worth more than the scale it unlocks. An isolated Organization can guarantee where its data lives and what travels with it. That turns data residency, regional control, in-region AI and search compute, and enforceable tenant-level policy into product capabilities rather than deployment exceptions. It is the foundation for a class of enterprise and regulated-market offerings that a shared-instance architecture cannot support. We are hiring a Director of Engineering in India to lead this charter. You will build and run the engineering organization that takes Cells from first production migrations to the default way GitLab.com operates. What you will do Delivery of the Cells and Organizations roadmap — cell provisioning and lifecycle, the routing and topology layer, organization data migration tooling, and feature parity across the platform. Migration execution. Cohort-based movement of customer Organizations onto cells with zero data loss, verified rollback, and no downtime outside the tenant in flight. A multi-cloud, multi-region cell footprint and the architectural decisions that govern what stays cell-local and what crosses boundaries. The engineering organization. Hire, level, and develop managers and senior ICs across several teams. Set the technical bar and the operating cadence. Cross-functional leadership. This charter touches nearly every product group at GitLab. You will drive commitments and sequencing with peer engineering leaders, Product, Infrastructure, and Security — much of it asynchronously, across time zones, in public issues and merge requests. How success is measured Customer Organizations running on cells in production, migrated cleanly and on schedule. Availability and latency improvements attributable to isolation and load distribution. Infrastructure cost per unit of capacity trending down as the footprint grows. Throughput and retention of the teams you build. What you will bring Engineering leadership at director scale Experience leading multiple teams through managers (roughly 25–60 engineers), including hiring and developing managers. A track record of shipping multi-quarter infrastructure programs with hard external dependencies — the kind where the hardest problem is sequencing across ten teams, not writing the code. Comfort operating as a peer to VPs and staff-plus engineers: you can hold an architectural position on technical merit and change it when the evidence changes. Strong written communication. GitLab is remote and asynchronous by default; influence here is exercised in documents. Distributed systems depth You have built and operated large-scale distributed systems in production — multi-tenant SaaS, sharded or cell-based architectures, control planes, or data platforms at comparable scale. Working fluency in relational database scaling (partitioning, sharding, replication), data migration at scale, and request routing. Real operational experience: incident command, capacity planning, and designing for blast-radius containment. Cloud infrastructure at depth on at least one major provider, ideally more than one. AI-native engineering You understand what agentic access patterns do to a platform's read volume, concurrency, and authorization model, and you design for that rather than retrofitting it. You use AI tooling in your own engineering practice and have raised the bar for it across a team. AI Engineer
role As a Senior AI Engineer at GitLab, you'll help build the foundation for GitLab's transformation into an AI-first company. Reporting to the Director, Enterprise AI, you'll be a hands-on technical leader responsible for delivering internal AI-powered solutions that drive measurable business outcomes. Building fast matters, but it's not enough on its own. This role starts with understanding the real problem: mapping how work moves across teams, tools, and handoffs, identifying the true constraint, and validating whether AI is the right solution before you begin development. From there, you'll take ownership from discovery through deployment, combining strong engineering skills with systems thinking and business understanding. Your initial focus will span Sales, Marketing, and Customer Support, where you will embed AI solutions into key systems and workflows. This role offers the opportunity to shape how GitLab team members work, improve flow across the organization, and help advance our mission in a remote, asynchronous, and values-driven environment. What you'll do Diagnose business problems before building solutions. Map workflows, identify constraints, and confirm whether AI is the right intervention. Be prepared to say "this doesn't need AI" when that's the honest answer. Own AI initiatives end-to-end, from stakeholder discovery and technical design through implementation, deployment, and iteration. Design, develop, and ship AI-powered solutions quickly, delivering working prototypes in days, not months, with a focus on practical outcomes and measurable business value. Improve organizational flow by building solutions that reduce bottlenecks, shorten lead times, and increase throughput. Measure success using flow metrics alongside adoption and ROI. Integrate AI capabilities into existing systems and workflows using APIs, orchestration tools, and modern AI platforms, including GitLab Duo Agent Platform, where appropriate. The right tool wins, whether that's custom code, a platform, or a well-crafted prompt. Be Customer Zero: leverage and showcase GitLab's AI offerings wherever possible, feeding real-world usage insights back to R&D. Partner closely with stakeholders across functions to understand the real constraints. Ask the right questions, bridge technical and non-technical perspectives, and align on outcomes before jumping to solutions. Define and track success through business metrics, flow metrics, and feedback loops that make performance visible and actionable. Contribute to technical direction by evaluating tools, documenting patterns, and creating reusable foundations that help the team scale its impact. What you'll bring A Technologist at Heart - Genuinely invested in technology, the foundational and the cutting-edge in equal measure. You're as energised by a well-designed API integration as you are by the latest foundation model release. You reach for the simplest solution that solves the problem well, rather than forcing new technology when proven approaches would do. AI is a powerful part of your toolkit, but it sits on top of solid engineering fundamentals, not in place of them. Competent, Confident Coding Skills - You can build working solutions end-to-end, write clean and maintainable code, and debug effectively. Whether your skills were honed in a traditional engineering role, through building automations, or shipping side projects, what matters is that you can deliver production-quality work independently. AI & LLM Technical Depth - Strong proficiency in at least one modern scripting language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar) and a solid understanding of REST APIs, GraphQL, and integration patterns. Deep, practical experience with modern AI technologies, specifically: Prompt engineering as a core discipline: designing effective system prompts, managing context windows, structuring multi-turn interactions, evaluating output quality, and iterating systematically on prompt design. Model selection and cost-performance trade-offs: understanding when a smaller fine-tuned model outperforms a general-purpose large one, when RAG is the right architecture versus expanding the context window, and how to make principled decisions about capability versus cost. Agentic architecture patterns: tool use, multi-agent orchestration, human-in-the-loop designs, guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and production-grade reliability patterns.Practical fluency across the LLM ecosystem: hands-on experience with models from Anthropic, OpenAI, open-source alternatives, and the judgment to know which to reach for and when. AI Safety & Risk Awareness - You think critically about how the solutions you build could be exploited, misused, or produce unintended consequences. You know how to design appropriate guardrails (input validation, output filtering, access controls, prompt injection defences, and data leakage prevention) and you treat these as first-class engineering concerns. Systems Thinking & Diagnostic Rigour - The ability to look at a complex process and see the constraint. Comfortable mapping how work flows end-to-end, identifying bottlenecks, and tracing problems to root causes before proposing solutions. You instinctively ask "what's actually blocking flow here?" before asking "what model should I use?" Business System Expertise - Familiarity with the landscape of enterprise business systems, CRM (Salesforce), marketing automation (Marketo), support platforms (Zendesk), integration and orchestration tools (Workato), AI platforms (Relevance AI), and enterprise search and knowledge tools (Glean). You don't need deep experience with all of these, but to understand what they do, how they fit together, and be willing to build with and across them. A strong understanding of enterprise data models and workflows is essential. Broad Functional Understanding - Ability to have meaningful conversations with stakeholders across diverse do

Director, Engineering, Platform Operations & Productivity
role As Director, Engineering, Platform Operations & Productivity, you'll own three functions that all require hands-on technical depth, not just people management. Platform Staff is a small, senior, AI-native team that moves to wherever the organization needs the most leverage, from standing up early scaffolding for an initiative, to taking on a high-impact customer request that doesn't fit any existing team's charter, to stepping directly into a production crisis until it's resolved. This role is for a technical engineering director who has personally built distributed systems, not only managed people who did. You'll use clear metrics, strong operating rhythms, and direct technical judgment so these teams deliver predictable outcomes without relying on one-person heroics. What you’ll do Own outcomes for Git & Gitaly Operations, including hiring and developing the Manager, Git & Gitaly Operations, and holding the function to its reliability bar across Self-Managed, GitLab Dedicated, and SaaS. Own outcomes for Nonlinear Productivity, also known as Friction Elimination, including hiring and developing the Manager, Nonlinear Productivity, and holding the function to measurable metric movement rather than activity. Build and oversee Platform Staff directly as a small, senior team that uses AI-assisted tools as a standard part of its work. Assess, case by case, what Platform Staff picks up, such as a new team that needs bootstrapping, a customer request too specific for any existing team's charter, or a crisis that needs someone in the room immediately. Assess when Platform Staff should hand work off to a permanent team once it's stable. Set the technical bar across all three functions by personally reviewing distributed systems designs, friction-elimination fixes, and crisis management plans with equal depth. Build the operating rhythm and metrics that keep all three functions running predictably, so none of them relies on any one person working unsustainable hours. Represent all three functions to peer engineering stakeholders, and step in front of customers directly when Platform Staff is engaged mid-crisis. What you’ll bring Working knowledge of GitLab's development workflows and platform capabilities so you can assess productivity friction, operational trade-offs, and team needs in context. Hands-on experience designing and shipping distributed systems personally, not only through teams you've managed. A track record running highly effective engineering operations, including production reliability and incident management, at meaningful scale. A track record driving measurable engineering productivity improvements across more than one team or organization. Experience with AI-assisted development tools, and sound judgment about when they help a small team do work that would otherwise require a larger team. People management experience across multiple managers or functions at once. Ability to context-switch effectively across genuinely different problem types, including infrastructure operations, developer productivity, and ad hoc crisis response, sometimes in the same week. A track record making staffing decisions that keep a high-leverage team intentionally small, and building alignment around those decisions rather than growing the team by default. About the team We work across three connected platform and productivity functions. Through Git & Gitaly Operations, we are responsible for the production reliability of the infrastructure layer underneath GitLab's own version control system. Through Nonlinear Productivity, we drive measurable improvements to GitLab's software development lifecycle and code-generation workflows. Through Platform Staff, we provide focused senior engineering capacity for high-leverage work that needs direct ownership before it can be stabilized or handed off to a permanent team. Collectively, we help GitLab improve the reliability, productivity, and responsiveness of the platform that powers how our customers and GitLab team members build software. Senior Independent Software Developer
You must be located in the Americas, Europe, or Israel to apply. A·Team is a VC-backed, stealth, application-only home on the internet for senior independent software builders to team up with hand-picked, high-growth companies on their next big thing. After talking with hundreds of independent engineers, designers, and product folks, we heard over and over that finding vetted, high-quality, consistent clients is hard, and projects are often too small to be rewarding. A·Team matches small teams of the most talented builders in the world with companies backed by a16z, YC, Softbank, General Catalyst, etc. on a contract basis for many of their most important initiatives. We quietly launched in May 2020, and have helped A·Teamers earn $85+ million since. As part of A·Team, you can expect: High-paying, meaningful missions with the most audacious companies sent your way; generally $90-$150+/hr, with vetted, fascinating clients doing work that matters. We're picky about who we partner with; new clients only come in via trusted referral. We've worked with Lyft, McGraw Hill, ClearCo, Pepsi, Walmart, the former CEO of Waze, the leading vaccine production software, several new unicorns we can't say here, and dozens of startups backed by a16z/YC/Softbank/Insight/Tiger/etc. Work alongside friends old & new: our niche is small/diverse product teams, since clients with larger budgets and higher-impact work tell us they want teams, not individuals. Of course, we keep friends together whenever we can. Full autonomy: say "no" to things that don't excite you. The most talented builders often juggle a few things at once, so there's never pressure to join an A·Team mission if you don't have the bandwidth. If we're no longer a fit, it's easy to leave or pause too. Small, curated, off-the-record gatherings: for conversations hard to have elsewhere. Long-term, we're creating micro-communities for the world's top builders to become friends around the things they care about. Keep 100% of what you earn: if you charge $120/hr, you get $120/hr. A·Team makes money by charging a small, flat, transparent platform fee on top of your rate. How to apply: Go here: https://build.a.team/remotivereferral + mention Remotive. We respect your time so the application is short. We're also much more interested in seeing what you've made, and excited to chat more if there’s a fit. What you’ll do: Once part of A.Team, you’ll regularly be invited to impactful missions that match your interests. Find the right pick from early-stage incubations with world-class founders, to fast-growing super-funded companies, to old school non-tech incumbents looking to build as a tech giant would Missions usually involve building an ambitious piece of software from 0 to 1 as part of a small 3-4 person team. You’ll be paid to scope it out, give the client options, guide strategy, and execute on the selected solution. Sometimes the client has a clear vision, sometimes not; which is why A.Team builders tend to be senior folks who can work together to find the right direction. Who A · Team is for: Senior software developers who left large companies and high-growth startups to pursue their craft with autonomy. Those who prefer consistent contract work over a full-time role, who want to create a variety of new products alongside other top-tier builders. The majority of A.Teamers spend most of their time doing independent work, but a sizeable percentage are either employed full-time (but testing out client work), bootstrapping a side project, or looking for their next big thing Who A · Team is not for: People looking for small gigs Folks looking to build simple wordpress/wix/squarespace-style websites Those still early in their careers (<4 years) and recent university/bootcamp grads (at least not yet) Our long-term vision: A·Team is a new type of company for a new kind of independent software builder. We call them "unhirables": people who traditional companies couldn’t hire full-time even if they wanted to, but who want to do their most meaningful work with their favorite people in small, autonomous, distributed expert teams. To help us secure amazing missions, we raised $60 million+ from Insight Partenrs, Tiger Global, NFX, RocNation, along with the former CEO of Upwork, the founders of Fiverr and Lemonade, Apple's Global Head of Recruiting, YC Partner Aaron Harris, Wharton's Adam Grant, and Duke's Dan Ariely.

Director, Strategic Partnerships
role As the Director, Strategic Partnerships, you will own two of GitLab's most important external relationships. This is a single-threaded owner role within the Corporate Development & Strategic Partnerships team, reporting to the VP, Corporate Development & Strategic Partnerships. You will shape partnership strategy from the top down and drive execution from the ground up — this is as much about running the weekly grind of a partnership as it is about setting its direction, turning strategic relationships into durable business outcomes. This role sits close to GitLab's evolving AI strategy and the future of our AI-powered DevSecOps platform. You will help define where technical integration, commercial alignment, and joint go-to-market efforts can create the most value for GitLab. You will develop a clear point of view, represent these partnerships with senior stakeholders, and personally drive the day-to-day work that spans multi-year planning and weekly execution — chasing down blockers, keeping work streams on track, and doing the detailed follow-through yourself rather than delegating it. What you'll do Serve as the primary owner and point of contact for one hyperscaler and one major AI lab, personally accountable for the direction, operating rhythm, and outcomes of each partnership, including the tactical work of keeping things moving week to week. Develop and drive multi-year partnership strategies and joint plans that connect GitLab's business priorities, product roadmap, and AI strategy with concrete partner initiatives — and then own getting those plans executed. Build strong working relationships across partner organizations, including executives, product management, engineering, sales, and marketing stakeholders. Run a disciplined operating cadence across complex initiatives, with clear priorities, owners, timelines, coordination points, and follow-through you drive yourself. Coordinate cross-functional work inside GitLab to support partnership goals, aligning teams across product, engineering, sales, marketing, and the executive group. Translate partner opportunities and requests into actionable internal plans, including roadmap discussions, integration needs, commercial motions, and executive recommendations. Track and communicate measurable partnership outcomes such as pipeline influence, annual recurring revenue impact, integration progress, and joint go-to-market execution. Represent the partnerships at the executive level by preparing clear recommendations, briefing executives, and helping drive alignment on investments, trade-offs, and next steps. What you'll bring Significant experience building and managing strategic partnerships, business development relationships, or alliance programs in enterprise software, cloud, and/or AI — with a track record of being in the details, not just setting direction. Strong ownership mindset with the ability to operate as a single-threaded owner who is accountable for both strategy and execution, and comfortable doing the hands-on work personally rather than handing it off. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex partnership topics into clear recommendations for executives and cross-functional stakeholders. Strong project and program management skills, including the ability to organize complex workstreams, prioritize effectively, and keep multiple initiatives moving through direct, hands-on management. Technical fluency in software development, platform integrations, and the AI or machine learning landscape, with comfort engaging engineering and product counterparts in substantive conversations. Experience working with senior stakeholders on high-visibility initiatives, including preparing executive briefings, framing recommendations, and driving follow-through. Ability to influence without formal authority, build strong working relationships across internal and external teams, and navigate multiple priorities with sound judgment. Familiarity with the DevSecOps ecosystem and a results-oriented approach to measuring partnership impact through business and product outcomes. About the team The Strategic Partnerships team owns the strategy and relationship management for some of GitLab's most consequential external partners, including hyperscalers and AI companies that are shaping the future of software development. We work across product, engineering, sales, marketing, and the executive group to turn partnerships into differentiated growth for GitLab and to ensure those relationships support our long-term platform strategy. We play an especially important role as GitLab continues to expand its AI-powered DevSecOps vision. Our partnership work is both strategic and deeply operational: we set direction, but we also personally drive the joint plans forward through steady execution, clear communication, and cross-functional coordination. This is not a role for someone who wants to hand off execution to others. In a fully remote and asynchronous environment, we operate with a high degree of ownership, transparency, and collaboration.
